Locanda dell’Artista has come to life thanks to Cristian Rovetta and Baker Bloodworth’s project. During a trip to Tuscany,back in 2010, they ran into this ancient little farm facing the wonderful town of San Gimignano. It was love at first sight and the beginning of a new adventure: sharing the beauty of this magic place is the biggest satisfaction for them and an experience which can make everybody’s senses reawaken. Since then Cristian, businesseman from Bergamo and Baker, successful movie producer, opened the doors of their romantic agriturismo, with that amazing view across the towers of San Gimignano, to guests coming from all around the world.

The Locanda dell’Artista is surrounded by an enchanting landscape of the magnificent hills and towers of San Gimignano. Whether opening your bedroom curtains, sipping a glass of fine wine on the patio, taking a leisurely swim in the pool, or strolling amongst the agriturismo’s olive trees, our guests never bore of its natural and historic beauty. The cities and villages of Tuscany with their art and antiquity are only a short distance away for sightseeing trips, though you may not want to move from the Locanda. Its blend of intimate, romantic retreat coupled with the services of a luxury hotel might make it too tempting to sit back from life, enjoy the Tuscan sun, the tranquillity, and relax.

Tuscany cuisine offers a wealth of unmistakeable flavours and aromas, and at Locanda dell’Artista we take great pride in harvesting many of these from our own kitchen garden. From late spring to autumn, many of the delicious vegetables, summer fruits and herbs that are used to create our restaurant dishes come each day from the garden.

Our ‘Garden Of Delicacies’ is just a few steps away from the restaurant and seeing the ingredients on the menu being picked before our guests’ eyes is a true delight. Whether from our garden, or from home-grown, local suppliers we demand the finest produce which is showcased in the quality of our food.
In 2018, AL 43 embarked upon a new mission to deliver the traditional flavours of Tuscan cuisine in a refined, sophisticated and exciting menu; taking the freshest of local ingredients and combining them with a twist to create gourmet food of the highest quality.
This new direction was received so well that our agriristorante was awarded a Michelin star in its first year; a recognition that was reconfirmed in 2020.

Locanda dell’Artista is a short distance from San Gimignano and Certaldo. Nestled in its rural beauty, guests will require a car to reach the Locanda.
The nearest airports are Florence (approximately 1 hour’s drive) and Pisa (90 minutes).
The skyline of San Gimignano, with its famous towers, is quite unmistakeable. Named a World Heritage Site in 1990, strolling through this unique town’s streets transports you back into its history as a medieval hamlet. Exploring the town and the surrounding area, with its typical products such as Vernaccia wine and excellent Zafferano (saffron) is a treat and a pleasure.
There are many and various activities in the San Gimignano area. Aside from strolling through the town and local villages of Certaldo and Volterra, we would be more than happy to help with organising day trips and excursions to make your visit to this beautiful area the most fulfilling possible. Activities such as flying in a hot-air balloon, tasting the best local wines, cooking courses on Tuscan cuisine, to name just a few, are all available locally

However, if you would rather spend your time relaxing around the pool and enjoying the San Gimignano vista from a distance, or sipping a glass of Vernaccia watching the sunset from the farmhouse terrace, then your days can be relaxing and fulfilling without leaving the estate.

Our extra-virgin olive oil comes from fruit hand picked early in the season and immediately cold-pressed. Because the area's soil is rich in minerals and the microclimate ideal for growing olives, the Locanda’s land has been growing olives for centuries. Four classic varietals are used to produce our perfectly balanced oil: Frantoio, Moraiolo, Pendolino, Leccino. Together they blend to create its topaz yellow color and intense and fragrant flavor with a balance of bitter and piquant notes.
