Val di Chiana
Agriturismi Farm Holiday Val di Chiana
Val di Chiana is the natural border between the lands of Arezzo and the lands of Siena, and it's made of hills that gently reach Chianciano.
At the far limit of the Siena province there is Chiusi, with its Eruscan history: tombs and museums remind us of the presence of a mysterious, legendary population, the Etruscans.
Ideally, the best itinerary goes through Montepulciano, where the roads go up leading to the highest square, where the Townhall is, whose facade reminds of Florence Palazzo Vecchio features. Montepulciano is the land of Vino Nobile, one of the greatest DOCG wines of Italy. But we mustn't forget Cetona, San Casciano Bagni, with its spa, or Torrita di Siena.
Leaving Chianciano behind, the wonderful church of Madonna di San Biagio appears. Here there is space for some strange legends: it is told that the church was built where seven roads used to meet. This is the land of the Chianina meat, one of the oldest and most important cow breeds of Italy, taking its name from the area of production, Valdichiana. A real ''fiorentina steak'' has to be at least three fingers thick and weigh over a kilo. It has to be eaten rare, cooked on chestnut, oak and olive wood, seasoned only after cooking and flavoured with freshly ground pepper and extra virgin olive oil. Wine suggestions: it goes extremely well with a Brunello di Montalcino but Chianti Classico and Colli Senesi reserve are also good, as are Nobile di Montepulciano and Val d'Orcia.
