These soft, sweet hills, with warm hues , are like works of art conceived by nature and shaped my man, and have now become the symbol itself of Tuscany. Magic landscapes with a single solitary farm on a hill, preceeded by a large cypress-lined alley, and surrounded by a true ''lunar landscape''.

These are the Crete Senesi, or Clay Hills, a large area on the border between Siena and Arezzo, reaching the feet of Monte Amiata then sliding gently into the Val d'Orcia.
The smallest centres have interesting stories to tell, like the little municipality of San Giovanni d'Asso, which has dedicated a museum to truffles, Montisi, an old ''Scialenga'' castle and land of the preacher Bartolomeo Carosi called Brandano, Asciano, the ''capital'' of the clay hills, with its basilica, its incredibile Museum of Palazzo Corboli. And through this magical lunar landscape we reach Trequanda, founded by the mytical Etruscan hero Tarkonte.
An unmissible visit has to be done to the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, ''spiritual capital'' of the Clay Hills, an architectonic jewel, a grand complex built by the Benidictine monks containing many works of art, especially in the superb cloyster. In the heart of the Crete Senesi , Buonconvento is a magical little town, whose name derives from ''Bonus Conventus'', happy place.
