Trait-d'union between the provinces of Siena and Florence, Valdelsa has alwas shown its vocation for economy and commerce, still keeping his ''green soul'' intact.
Since the Middle Ages, with his villages all along the Francigena, like Poggio Bonizio, Poggibonsi used to be the capital of Chianti Classico, with a slice of land included in the Gallo Nero domain. Today Poggibonsi is mainly an industrial town.

Just like Colle Val d'Elsa, with its well-preserved ancient city centre, in Colle Alta. Today Colle is a crystal-producing town, and was nicknamed ''The City of Crystal'', producing 15% of world crystal, and 95% of Italian crystal.
And of course San Gimignano, which has kept its millenary charm until today and has been declared a Unesco World Heritage site. Its Piazza della Cisterna is unmissable, for a stop before visiting Palazzo del Popolo, where the fantastic Maestà painted by Lippo Memmi is conserved.
From the Civic Museum we can reach Torre Grossa, dominating all the Val d'Elsa. North of Siena, the Val d'Elsa immediately acquires a special charme, thanks to the city walls of Monteriggioni, described by Dante in the Divine Comedy. And from this fortified town we can look on the refined beauty of Badia a Isola, one of the best preserved Romanic churches in Tuscany.
Val d'Elsa is a land of strong, intense flavours, represented by the wonderful wine and traditional saffron production.
